New Segment — Pormada Popcorn!

Posted on November 27, 2013

This is my ode to the visually moving, in the form of movie magic, awesome advertisements, inspiring inserts, and a whole lot more. It will constitute digging up links to clips of all things amazing, and I am more than eager to accommodate your recommendations! E-mail me at sarah.meier@pormada.com with your video link and a short description of why it gets your thumbs up. I kick start this little movement with an oldie but a goodie. A Pepsi commercial, originally created for Michael J. Fox but later localized with Filipino heartthrob Jao Mapa, including a cameo by a beautiful lady I have long looked up to and have the pleasure of calling a friend, Miss Cristina Garcia, playing “Danielle”. There was another commercial that…

Blowing My Mind — She’s Only Sixteen?!

Posted on November 4, 2013

Hi folks! I started noticing this really catchy poppity-pop song on the radio over the past few weeks, and after days of both my daughter and I incessantly humming the melody, we made it a point to find out what it was we were singing. A little Googling on my part, and some TV watching on my daughter’s turns up that it was a song called “Royals” from New Zealand based artist, Lorde. A little dig into her discography turns up hardly a thing, which I soon find out is probably because SHE’S ONLY SIXTEEN. She doesn’t sound sixteen. Or look sixteen. Which is making me feel a few things – are kids growing up entirely too fast (see make up tutorials on YouTube…

“No Cameras Allowed Backstage” – A Philippine Fashion Week Insider Report

Posted on October 21, 2013

Thirteen years of being a part of Philippine Fashion Week translates to roughly 2,000 hours, of which only about 1/10th are spent on the actual runway, which means that most of the time (and action) is really happening in the wings and behind the scenes. But very rarely is anyone given access to the organized chaos of the SMX Convention Center innards in the months of May and October – a measure to protect the privacy and property of models, the artistry and concepts of designers and all breeds of stylists, and the sanctity of the only shielded place that people can freak out and lose composure in peace. Still, one man and his lens have made their way into the belly…

There really isn’t a more ideal time to schedule a fresh start than when the need for one arises, so instead of waiting for the New Year to change the direction of this blog, I’ve decided to fast forward plans and get a head start on the new hue of things I share with you. Starting with a celebration of the creative and the provocative; of Philippine based talent, and the steamrolling influence of streetwear in youth culture, as well as one of my first forays into international apparel creative direction. Thought it would be cool to take you behind the scenes of some things I do, to show you parts of the process. This is a project that came about earlier this year from…

Audiolove: Rihanna – Pour It Up (EXPLICIT)

Posted on October 4, 2013

Just incase you haven’t seen the brand new Ri-Ri video yet, we thought we’d amp up your Friday with it. Chances are none of us are going to encounter anything that looks like this over the weekend, and however raunchy it may be, it’s still worlds better than watching Miley’s attempts at twerking. Side note: my Mother has been using the word “twerk” for over a month now. Any suggestions on how to make her stop are highly welcome. -s.

How I Wore It: DJ Johhnyverse Stuart White Sunglasses x Cookoo Watch

Posted on September 6, 2013

Hello from NYC! It’s good to be back in my other other hometown, catching the tail end of what seems to have been a bright and sunshine-y summer. As usual, I packed half asleep, an hour before my 4am departure for the airport in Manila, and so it’s always a little bit of a surprise opening my suitcase and trying to put a decent outfit together once I arrive on the East Coast. In the midst of haphazardly folded turtleneck sweaters and cut off denim shorts (you never know what weather you’re going to get) I found a black sheer sweetheart bodysuit and a pair of tailored black shorts in my Victorinox luggage (latest favorite thing I own), threw on a white blazer with a…

Inspiration: Art Attack x Shark Attack

Posted on August 23, 2013

I took a Publishing course at Columbia University last year, and for part of the program, found myself under the tutelage of some of New York City’s most experienced book and magazine art directors. One of the bits of advice I continue to draw from the most is when one of my lecturers told me to be extremely mindful of what I absorbed; that in the same way one was “what they ate”, the quality of my visual output was directly affected and shaped by things I looked at – whether or not it was well made. “Know how to use Google Images.”, he said. If you are vague, if you do not properly cordon off or put parameters to your search, “You will…
