It’s no big secret that I am a huge fan of Joey Samson’s designs. Through the years he has been consistent in churning out carefully constructed articles of clothing that are always modern but timeless, and always fresh and edgy. He is my go-to designer. Joey never fails to come up with standout pieces that always push the envelope. He is the only one I know that can make a pantsuit look exciting, or overalls look chic. His gowns are never generic and plain–there is always something unique and different in his designs that you recognize it from across the room. Like, you would immediately know its a Joey Samson design if you were familiar with his work.

So of course when Joey celebrated his tenth year anniversary as a designer, I was there to cheer for him. His work occupied the entire Picasso Hotel in Makati, as he set up numerous art installations and photo exhibits from the lobby all the way to the rooftop. This unique exhibit was a journey into Joey Samson’s psyche, that for me revealed a brooding and introspective personality, that is highly creative and intellectual. Each floor displayed his best work for a particular year, that didn’t just hang on mannequins, but were presented through photographs or videos. It took most of us about an hour to see everything. The exhibit ended with a fashion show, that was located at the gym of the hotel.

To many of us at the exhibit, Joey is not only a talented artist but a creative virtuoso in his own right. It was good to see most of the fashion industry there to support him–models, editors, personalities and celebrities all came to together to recognize and honour this wonderful designer. Here are some of the things I saw at the event:
